Concerns surrounding the safety of BON Bread have been addressed after the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) confirmed that the product passed all necessary safety tests.
The viral claims alleged that Food & Food Integrated Company Limited, makers of BON Bread, used harmful substances to extend the bread’s shelf life. However, after carrying out investigations and laboratory analysis, NAFDAC stated that the company only used calcium propionate — a preservative approved for use in bread production when used within regulated limits.
According to the agency, the preservative found in BON Bread was within acceptable safety standards and poses no health risk to consumers. NAFDAC also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and damaging businesses unfairly.
The clarification has sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing relief while others called for stricter monitoring of food products across the country.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health by ensuring that food products sold in Nigeria meet approved safety and quality standards.
